Cybercrime

Cybercrime is when people use computers or the internet to do illegal things. In real estate, both in Jamaica and around the world, cybercrime is becoming a bigger problem. Scammers might hack into emails or websites to steal important information, like bank details or property papers, and use it to take money or trick people. For example, they could pretend to be a real estate agent or lawyer and send you a fake email that looks real, telling you to send money to the wrong account. Once you send it, the money is gone, and it’s very hard to get it back. Cybercriminals can also use viruses or tricks, like phishing, to get into computer systems and steal data. This kind of crime affects people everywhere, not just in Jamaica, and it can cause big financial losses for homebuyers, sellers, and even real estate companies. To protect against cybercrime, it’s important to double-check everything, make sure you’re using secure websites, and keep your personal information safe. If something feels off, it’s always best to pause and verify before making any big decisions or sending money.
